Monday, November 17, 2025 "Oh, give thanks to the Lord. He is good. His steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, those whom he has redeemed from trouble." (Psalm 107:1-2) The ancient Hebrews got into trouble soon after they left Egypt. After stopping at Mount Sinai, they marched north toward their ancestor Abraham's old stomping ground. God had promised they would repossess this land. Had they obeyed God, things would have gone more smoothly for them. They were approaching from the south. News of the Egyptian plagues and the miraculous escape through the sea would have spread. Many of the people living there would have probably fled north, fearing that the plagues suffered by the Egyptians might befall them. God's people instead chose disobedience. They refused to invade the Promised Land, not out of concern for the welfare of the inhabitants, but because they didn't believe God would give them the victory. They spent the next 40 years wandering in the desert -- one year for every day the spies spent searching out the land. Disobedient though they were, God was still faithful to them. God miraculously provided manna for them to eat. At least twice, He made water flow from a rock so they and their flocks could drink (Isaiah 48:21). You and I might not be in a literal desert right now, but we all face disappointments, frustrations, and setbacks. God allows us to experience barren circumstances for a purpose. When we encounter folks who are discouraged, we can share our testimony of God's faithfulness through hard times. Bible passages about how God sustained the ancient Israelites were not written as a history textbook. They are written to encourage us to trust in God's Providence during bleak times (Romans 15:4). Jesus is the ultimate spring of water for our souls (John 4:14). Trust God in impossible situations. Then, eagerly share your testimony about His faithfulness. "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so."
