Montessori Infant Nido Environment is a year round, Organic, Montessori School. The (MINE) mission is to provide a nurturing, home-like educational environment for the very young wherein they are encouraged and supported to do the important lifework of becoming a fully developed, whole person who is mindful of individual, environmental, and community responsibilities. Over many years of raising my own children, teaching in Montessori schools, and studying Montessori philosophy and child development, I formed a vision of a school that integrated the fundamental aspects of Maria Montessori's vision for child education with the foundational qualities of human kindness, environmental stewardship, mutual trust, and community engagement to create a school that embodied all that I wished was available when my children were young. I opened the doors to that school, Montessori Infant Nido Environment or MINE, in August 2013, serving 5 children in my home. But something amazing happened. As I shared my vision MINE with others, they started volunteering their time, creativity, services, and resources. They gave of these things freely because they, like me, believed in the potential of raising the standards and value of childcare and education for the very young and the MINE vision grew into what it is now: a year-round, all-natural, organic Montessori school for children ages 8 weeks through 6 years. The current plan for MINE includes organic and vegetarian meals and snacks, organic cloth diapers for the younger children, organic linens for every child, and all-natural materials in every classroom. Additionally, MINE has Isla the school dog and Bleu the school cat with whom the children learn to develop positive relationships with animals. An organic seed-to-table experience, environmental responsibility, and peace-building are woven into the daily curriculum. Most importantly, the school is being created to serve as a community resource for children, parents and families. Partnering with local farmers, furniture makers, child specialists, midwives and pediatricians, and various organizations that serve children, MINE and its teachers will be a supreme advocate for children and parents while supporting the local community. Additionally, once off the ground, the MINE Food Program in particular will be refined to create a template and act as a resource to help implement and support an organic, seed-to-table culinary curriculum in group childcare programs across the nation. The goal of the co-creators and supporters of MINE is to change to culture of how we think about, what we expect, and how we regard educational experiences for children from birth to three years. This campaign is to financially support the collection of talented teachers, passionate and committed parents, and interested community members that have joined together to push Montessori Infant Nido Environment to the next level. The campaign will change the lives of local children, parents and families, and will help create a change-agent for the greater culture to re-value the first three years of children's lives, their parent's experiences, the worth of their caregivers, and the significance of their daycare/preschool experience.
