Chapter Ten of The Orc Boyz Saga. Before the legends hardened, there was a man who carried water, shared bread, and knew his soldiers’ names. Before the orcs broke the line, there were stories— quiet, human, and incomplete. This chapter is told by someone who stood close enough to see what the stories left out. Not the monster across the field, but the one who emerged beside him. Some stories make men larger than life. Others fail to capture what they became. Lyrics: [Verse 1] Steel on my shoulder Paper-thin hands I signed the line in a quiet spring Fields were green Not red They told stories of him in taverns Quiet awe, half-drunk lies Said he never broke, never bent I laughed—said men don’t live twice But he carried water for the limping Gave his cloak to a boy in rain He split his bread with the hungriest hands Said, “No one bleeds alone in my name.” He knew our names by the second night Fixed straps, checked boots, stayed late Showed me a ring with a nervous grin Said kindness still counted as weight [Pre-Chorus] I thought legends were stitched from fear And men were smaller than praise I thought the stories made him larger Than the gentle old man I obeyed [Chorus] I heard stories of them How spears barely pierce their hide How they crush a man’s skull with bare hands And laugh while he dies They know no fear, they don’t slow or bleed Each one you kill makes the rest more alive But I stand shaking beside him And wish my fear was still outside [Verse 2] The orcs came running like moving stone Green skin split with old white scars My spear struck first—slid off the muscle Like I’d stabbed a wall of bark Men screamed once Then disappeared Helmets folded like paper cups And every step they took toward us Made my legs forget how to run He shouted orders, steady still “Hold the gate—stay close—stay here” Like rules survived the end of days Like walls still meant what they once did [Chorus] I heard stories of them Blades bouncing, shields torn thin Prayers dying in open mouths Before they could get in They don’t break, they don’t doubt, they don’t stop They don’t beg, they don’t hide But I stand shaking beside him And something worse is at my side [Verse 3] They told stories of him on quiet nights When the watch ran long and cold Said he walked where lines gave way Said he held ground others fled from I said, “Stories grow that way.” But he killed one—then another—then more Not fast, not clean, not kind Each body fell like it fed him Like fear sharpened his mind Mud on his face Blood in his teeth Eyes too wide to see me still there He moved like the war had learned his name And decided to live there I screamed his name—he didn’t turn Just laughed like something clicked Like every story I’d ever heard Was missing this part of it [Bridge] I hate the sound Of bone in hand The way he smiles When a man won’t stand The orcs scare me They always did But they don’t look at me like this They kill to live They kill to eat He kills like it makes him complete That ring is gone I don’t know when Lost in a throat full of broken men So tell me— Where is my captain now? What happened to the man who knelt? The one who carried the wounded in, Who said mercy was strength itself? Was he a lie we told ourselves To make the waiting easier to bear? Or was this monster waiting quiet In the kindness I saw there? [Chorus – Final] I heard stories of him Thought none were ever true Thought fear needed distance Thought legends always grew Now the orcs fall back when he comes through Even monsters clear his path And I know the stories never did him justice— They were gentler than the wrath [Outro] If we live I won’t leave town I won’t say his name with pride Because the stories they’ll tell sound human And I was there I watched him divide Captain was a man with a wedding ring A voice that taught us how to stand Now I don’t know if he was lost to war Or if this was always the man Art: Midjourney Music: Suno Concept:UragTrys
