Producers of 'The Wild Wild West' (1965) turned to Dimitri Tiomkin for a theme. He was known for Western scores like 'High Noon' and 'The Alamo', plus he wrote the popular theme song for 'Rawhide'. But the music he came up was too traditional for the semi-futuristic (for its period) concept of 'Wild West'. Enter Richard Markowitz, who began with the contemporary sound of Fender bass and percussion, then laid a more traditional theme over it. Just what the producers ordered, and it served the show (which presaged the 'steampunk' genre) over four seasons. On this video: • Original black-and-white opening titles and credits. • Color opening (West now punches out the lady assassin) and credits. • BONUS: A reunion movie ('Wild Wild West Revisited) appeared in 1979, and while for some reason it turned the show into a comedy, the musical score by Jeff Alexander made excellent use of the original theme. Included here: the opening titles and the end credits.
