If an exercise elicits or intensifies symptoms, stop immediately and use a viable substitute. Rotator Cuff Syndrome (RCS): Includes Subacromial Impingement Syndrome (SIS) and bursitis, Rotator Cuff tendinopathy and partial and full-thickness Rotator Cuff tears. Rotator Cuff Syndrome (RCS) affects millions of patients on a global scale. Rotator Cuff Syndrome affects patient populations in an age-dependent fashion. Equal incidence of RCS in males and females. Overhead activities in sports predispose patients to Rotator Cuff Syndrome. Rotator cuff muscles arise from scapula and insert into humerus. Posterior rotator cuff muscles: Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus and Teres Minor Anterior rotator cuff muscles: Subscapularis Rotator cuff muscles help in shoulder joint mobility by facilitating abduction, internal rotation and external rotation. Rotator Cuff muscles are dynamic stabilizers of the glenohumeral joint. Symptoms of Rotator Cuff Syndrome Lateral shoulder pain. Aggravated by overhead activities. Pain at night due to lying on same side. Usually have reduced shoulder active range of motion. Rest and Activity Modifications Patients benefit from an initial period of rest from exacerbating activities, especially repetitive overhead activity. Develop proportional strength in the shoulder to prevent and rehabilitate rotator cuff injuries. Control the eccentric and concentric phases of the motion.
