Wanted to share some advice that I got on my Mountain Leader Assessment when talking about Flora (Plants) and how to make your info more memorable. This then led me to a few different strategies that I will sometimes use to help outdoor instructors make their sessions more memorable. Using a few plants as examples to demonstrate how to make things more memorable, rather than just pointing out a few plants and their names, getting people to experience it, question and understand why certain plants are used for different things. Other methods we can use is association, to help people build links between things to create greater understanding as well as making it easy to recall information. Linked to that is also making things funny or rude. I don't think it is a coincidence that my childish mind is able to remember some rude facts about plants easier than some more beneficial uses. Obviously, choose carefully who and how you share that sort of info with. What strategies do you use to help clients remember what you have told them? .............................................................................................................................................................
