Heading into the forest alone in winter can feel a bit strange the first time. Lonely, maybe dangerous, and a little bit uncomfortable. In this video I take a dog team out for a simple solo overnight in my hot tent here in Swedish Lapland and talk through the most common mistakes I see people make with solo winter camping – and how to avoid them. This is not about breaking records or surviving a storm. It’s about making a realistic, safe and enjoyable first (or second, or tenth) solo night out in the cold. My hope is that this gives you a calm, honest look at what solo winter camping can be like – with the good parts and the challenging parts – and maybe a little push to try it yourself, on your own terms.
