Written by two of New York's most respected producers, Garnett's mentor Jerry Ragovoy & the prolific Stanley J. Kahan, a man behind so many powerful Northern Soul productions. But this recording was shaped in the UK by Derek Lawrence & Dave Paramor, engineered at such a furious pace, a few DJ's have curbed its scorching fury by playing at minus -5 rpm. When its menacing dance-pulses are best appreciated. The recording we have taken from this mint minus disc is exactly that; a -5 rpm thumping slab of MOD Northern Soul. Same tune as Garnet performed on his UK university tour in 1967 with the now legendary seven man Glaswegian MOD band "The Senate". The Senate delivered such a vibrant backing for Garnet, he was allegedly so impressed by the rasping vocals of Alex Jackson & Sol Byron two gritty Scottish growlers and the saxophone intrusions of Bob Mather, the insistent whirling Hammond keyboard pulses from Mike Brandon Fraser. Adding authentic soulful depth to their two live performances at 1.Sussex University 2. Club A Go Go, Newcastle during his short but unforgettable UK tour in 1967. They all went into the studio with Deep Purple's future producer Derek Lawrence & fellow Brit Dave Paramor to record this relentless pounder. Consequently there was no USA release at all... 1967 was of course the very zenith of the British Soul/MOD "allniter" movement This is the way to own one of the few times a British MOD band went into the studio with a seasoned USA Soul legend delivering from the reliable hi-fidelity British EMI vinyl. Feel the impact of the unique mix of young MOD fervor and cool calculated ingrained soulfulness of an artist at the top of his game. The song was also covered by The Who and Led Zeppelin, but obviously not a patch on this, the original real-soul version. A proper 1967 floor-destroyer encapsulating the very essence of that epic '67 MOD era. Condition Report LABELS. Tiny faint initial KH at 10 o'clock a-side label, otherwise, two clean promo labels, 4 prong centre intact, fine bright n' clean, green and white label images. VINYL is magnificent full gloss Excellent plus throughout, listen to the rich impressive flawless soundfile.
