IB GEOGRAPHY (Standard & Higher Level) Grades: 11 – 12 Length: 2 years Credits: 2 Prerequisite: Social Studies teacher recommendation Geography is a dynamic subject that is firmly grounded in the real world and focuses on the interactions between individuals, societies and the physical environment. It investigates the way that people adapt and respond to change and evaluates management strategies associated with such change. It examines key global issues, such as poverty, sustainability and climate change through detailed case studies at a variety of scales. Within group 3 subjects, geography is distinctive in that it occupies the middle ground between social sciences and natural sciences. The geography course integrates both physical and human geography, and ensures that students acquire elements of both scientific and socio-economic methodologies. There is a required trip (3-days) in year one to do fieldwork on river processes and investigate development issues in Northern Thailand.
