Jemma French, Reception Teacher at Wadhurst CE Primary School, shares how Story Steps builds focus, vocabulary, and inclusion in her classroom. At Wadhurst CE Primary School and Nursery, Jemma French, Reception Class Teacher, explains how introducing Story Steps has transformed storytelling and language in her classroom. She describes how Story Steps complements The Poetry Basket and Helicopter Stories sessions, keeping children focused, engaged, and eager to join in. The vocabulary cards have become a favourite tool, helping her and her TAs expand language and support learning for every child. Jemma reflects on the progress of children with SEND, noting how Story Steps helps them visualise, recreate, and understand stories through movement and imagery. For one pupil in particular, vocabulary and confidence have soared. “They love doing Story Steps. It’s become part of our routine, easy to add into the day, and the children are always excited for it.” Story Steps builds confidence, inclusion, and imagination, giving every child a way to step into story.
