Dating to the 1930s, this silent German educational film is about raising chickens on a farm. The film starts at 00:00 with an image of a large henhouse, with chickens and their young moving into a courtyard to roost and forage. At 2:30, eggs are gathered by the farmer and placed in a basket with straw, so that a hen can keep them warm. The eggs hatch at 4:05. At 6:25, the chicks are shown in the yard with their mother hen, eating from a feeder. At 11;46, a rooster is shown on the prowl, and has a turf war with another rooster. At 12:58, eggs are gathered by the farmer's wife, and then the hen house door is closed for the night. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you.
