For the first time since I set up this channel, life has become so normal again that I’ve been able to do the unthinkable - in September 2022, I escaped from Lancashire and headed to the south-west for a holiday. My destination? Bath, in north east Somerset! Being an enthusiast for all things Regency, I couldn’t help but notice just how many clues a walk around Bath can offer about how people lived, worked and generally enjoyed themselves as it evolved into a highly fashionable spa town during the Georgian period where life was anything but boring. If you’re into architecture, you’ll definitely find something to see in this video. If you’re into social history, perhaps I can interest you in a brief guide to Bath that draws together biscuits, bathing, a seriously expensive, well-known historical figures living side by side at some very famous addresses, the importance of staying on the right side of Richard Nash, the logic behind taking out fire insurance in the 1700s . . . and a very daring elopement?
