Ok gang, today we are gonna talk about olets. An olet is a very economical branch connection and is designed to minimize stress concentrations and provide integral reinforcement. There are over 8 different classes of Olets but for today we are just going to talk about these 5 that are manufactured by Bonney forge. And since we will use the Bonney olets we will call them by their registered Bonney forge names. The welded version is the weldolet, threaded version thredolet, socket weld version the sockolet, the elbolet and the sockolet. The advantage of the weldolets fitting as opposed to using a stub end connection is that the connection is considered by ASME, 100% pipe strength. In other words, weldolets are designed so that their actual bursting strength when installed as recommended exceeds the computed bursting strength of the pipe. Another advantage is the cost of installation. There are only two welds as opposed to three or more on the branch connections. The threadolet utilizes the basic weldolets configuration, however it provides a threaded outlet branch connection. It is also manufactured in 3000 and 6000 pound classes. As you can see as I put it on the pipe how this would then connect to the threaded pipe coming out of the run of the previous pipe. I’m using a 180 degree bend instead of a pipe so it will stay still as I demonstrate this. This would not usually be a time when you would use an olet connection. The sockolet also uses the basic design configuration and incorporates a socket weld outlet. These sockolets are actually available in 3000…6000 and also 9000 pound classes. Again you can see how the connector works this time for the sockolet. The outlet branch of course being a socket weld for this connector The latrolet, is very interesting part of the olet family. The latrolet is used for 45 degree lateral connections for specific reinforcement requirements. They are available in 3000 or 6000 pound classes and buttweld, socket Weld and threaded connections. They are similar to the other olets we just discussed however this time done at a 45 degree angle. And like the other olets they can be done with threaded, socket weld, or buttweld ends Now the last olet we will be talking about is the elbolet. The elbo let is actually the perfect connector for 90 degree or 180 degree pipe bends. Elbolet's are used on 90 degree long radius elbows they can be manufactured for short radius elbows also for thermowell and instrumentation connections. They are available in 3000 or 6000 classes. These elbolet's are also available in threaded… socket Weld and butt-Weld connections.
