ALMOST SUMMER is the title track from the soundtrack for the movie by the same name. The track authoring is credited to Brian Wilson/Mike Love/Al Jardine. This video includes 4 versions of the song played sequentially with visual title card breaks: WMMS Cleveland KFRC KRTH101 Movie Mike Love of the Beach Boys found the project opportunity and formed the band Celebration as it wasn't possible for whatever reason with The Beach Boys. Band members include jazz flute player Charles Lloyd and King Harvest alum Ron Altbach, plus others. As a promotion, Mike Love recorded customized lyrics for a number of radio stations around the country. Even the movie version features an additional verse not found on the commercial release incorporating the names of the Beach Boys into it. Of the promotional versions, only the KRTH version was pressed onto a promotional 45 - the rest were distributed by tape. Celebration did a short USC concert singing some of the songs with Brian, Carl and Dean Torrence (who also designed the logo and album cover, I believe). The band also did a few TV appearances including Brian on bass. I always loved this song as it felt like a fun-time Beach Boys song with a great Mike Love vocal. So much the better that we get to hear alternate lyrics and versions - a fanboy's dream come true! No copyright infringement intended.
