Setlist: Fields of Joy Always on the Run Be Fear Sister Stop Draggin' Around Believe It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over Are You Gonna Go My Way Let Love Rule Leonard Albert "Lenny" Kravitz (born May 26, 1964) is an American singer, guitarist, and actor. He scored worldwide hits with songs such as Let love rule (1989), Always on the run (1991), It ain't over 'til it's over (1991), Are you going to go my way (1993) and I'll be waiting (2007). Lenny Kravitz was born in New York, the son of Ukrainian-Jewish journalist Sy Kravitz and actress Roxie Roker, who had African-American and West Indian roots. Kravitz developed a love for the 70s and 60s at a young age, and especially for the music of that time. Jimi Hendrix is one of his idols and soul and funk are Kravitz's favorite genres. He was offered a contract by Virgin in 1988. A year later his first album, Let love rule, was released. The quirky Kravitz appealed to many people and he became a popular artist on MTV Europe. Success also turned out to be a problem for him. His second album Mama Said was about the, now broken, relationship with actress Lisa Bonet. On this album he collaborated with Slash, at the time still lead guitarist with Guns N'Roses. Sean Ono Lennon, son of one of his great examples, also made an appearance in the song All I ever wanted. Kravitz himself often appeared on albums by other artists. Artists who have worked with him include P. Diddy, Pharrell Williams, Vanessa Paradis, Sheryl Crow, BB King, Eric Clapton, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger, Guns N' Roses, Erykah Badu, Prince, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen and Neneh Cherry. In 1990 Kravitz wrote the song Justify my love for Madonna. After the death of Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz announced on his Facebook account that he had also made a song together with the recently deceased singer, which was not yet released. After the very successful album 5, Greatest hits was released in 2000. Kravitz also often made it to the media with popular actions. In 1991 he set up the Give Peace A Chance project with Sean Lennon and in 2003 he recorded We want peace with the Iraqi singer Kazem Al Sahir. In 1992, Kravitz wrote and produced the English-language debut album of singer/actress Vanessa Paradis. The two also had a brief relationship. After the less successful album Lenny from 2001, Lenny returned in 2004 with the hit Where are we runnin'? from the album Baptism, on which he is musically more reminiscent of the earlier albums. Lady from this album also became a hit in the United States. In February 2008, Kravitz's album It's time for a love revolution was released. After a world tour, this would be followed by an album that was to be called Funk, although he had been working on such an album for almost ten years. Later, Kravitz announced that the album would be called Black and White America. It became a double CD with rock and parts of his long-awaited Funk album. The album was released on August 22, 2011. The first single Come on get it was released on February 20, 2011. Welcome to the official Pinkpop Archive YouTube channel!
