Back when it was just a small village of a few hundred people, our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, visited at age 32 while working as an attorney in 1841. By the 1850s, Lincoln was a familiar face strolling its streets. Notable figures connected to Danville include Gene Hackman, Dick Van Dyke, Jerry Van Dyke, Donald O’Connor, and Bobby Pierce—though none were born there, they spent part of their family lives in the town. Famous natives include Helen Morgan (Aug 2, 1900), Bobby Short (Sept 15, 1924), Morris Ankrum (Aug 28, 1897), and Zeke Bratkowski (Oct 20, 1931).
