Today we're discussing the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre Heuer 01 Automatic Chronograph Blue Touch Edition. You can see this 45mm steel and ceramic TAG Heuer Chronograph on our website, govbergwatches, along with the entire TAG Heuer model line. The Heuer 01 was the sensation of Baselworld 2015, a hit from the first. The watch combines certain heritage styling elements with a modern design sensibility and overall proportions, starting from the outside moving in. You can see the unique, blue, natural-vulcanized-rubber perforated strap that lends the model its name, along with the dial and case flank accents. The strap is supple and perforated to allow heat, moisture, grit, sweat to escape from underneath, and relieve the wrist on hot days and during periods of activity. A strong character line gives the strap visual definition. It meets a titanium clasp with titanium carbide plating for scratch resistance, twin-trigger release for security on the wrist. It can't accidentally pop open; it's not friction fit. It features a clever minder system that allows excess strap to tuck in underneath the clasp, removing the need for strap minder loops that can clutter a strap and age prematurely. The watch, from the outside moving in, again, is built around the essential architecture of the 1963-to-present Carrera model line, starting with strong, angular, thrusting lugs that give the watch its power outboard, surrounding a nearly indelible ceramic tech metric scale bezel. It's effectively as scratch-resistant as sapphire crystal itself, designed for long-wearing durability. The steel inner case and lugs complement the black ceramic. The watch features a dial that's no less detailed and thoughtfully laid out. All of the indices are hand-applied. It is a skeletonized dial, allowing you to look deep into the watch and see the Heuer 01 Calibre beneath. You can see the twin registers for the chronograph, 30 minutes at 12:00 and hours at 6:00, contrast with silver finish against the constant seconds indicator at 9:00, your cue that all of the action is along a vertical access here. You'll also note just beneath the 3:00 index, there's a subtle skeletonized date indicator. Practical and available when you want it and need it, it disappears and blends in to the overall ascetic when you don't want to see it. The watch features a unique rubber-coated knurled crown that achieves 100-meter water resistance without requiring screw down threaded sleeves, so it's always accessible for winding and setting. Although the Carrera model line historically is associated with motor sports, nevertheless, you are clear to go aquatic with the Heuer 01. You can also see that the chronograph starts, stops, and resets with a smooth action, thanks to the TAG Heuer in-house Calibre Heuer 01 Automatic Movement. You can see it to good effect here, with its skeletonized winding rotor, and just beneath my thumb, the red column wheel that acts as the function selector, in crisp and traditional fashion, for the movement. The movement is a unique 39-jewel in-house effort by TAG Heuer that yields a 50-hour power reserve and precise timing, thanks to a modern 4-hertz, or 28,800 vibrations-per-hour beat rate. Again, 100-meter water resistance graces it, but so does hacking seconds, such that when you pull the crown, you can stop the balance and precisely synchronize the watch to a known-accurate racing timer or atomic clock. Moreover, you have a quickset function for the date wheel should the watch ever run down or encounter an irregular length month.
