Breakthrough T1D, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, recently announced the first international consensus guidance titled “Consensus Guidance for Monitoring Persons with Islet Autoantibody-Positive Pre-Stage 3 Type 1 Diabetes” -- for monitoring people who test positive for one or more islet autoantibody associated with T1D – was presented recently at the American Diabetes Association’s 84th Scientific Sessions. DocWire News spoke with Breakthrough T1D’s Anastasia Albanese-O'Neill, AVP of Community Screening and Clinical Trial Education, who led the process of developing of the consensus guidance, which addresses a significant unmet need in the treatment of T1D – the necessity for more screening and monitoring -- which is not currently commonplace and could completely change the course for many people who will develop the chronic disease.
