Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity: Supporting Young People

Funding from our Urgent Covid-19 Appeal enabled Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity to set up a mental health Peer Support Programme for young people presenting with mental illnesses in Birmingham. With the pandemic only increasing the need to manage the mental health of young people, the programme focuses on support provided by Peer Support Workers, who provide someone to confide in and trust, who has lived, worked, and breathed in the same community and struggled with the same mental health crises of those they support. In this video, Nicole Hermanns, Head of Philanthropy and Strategic Projects at the charity, and Charlotte Weir, a Peer Support Worker, share how the programme is changing young lives.
