Hey Guys! Welcome and in today’s video, you will watch evolution of knives through history knives from the lithic period to the present. ▶️ Please subscribe: / @progresspaths8016 Man has a special bond with hunting tools especially the knife. The knife has always been man's unique tool, used for hunting and for daily survival even in prehistoric times. Knives were initially just used for hunting and gathering, but later they were used for everything from building to cooking. Sharpened tools gave way to the modern knife over time. Flint our forefathers and mothers particularly favored knives as a tool. The sharp end of a flint can be reshaped many times before it breaks. Knives fashioned from bronze and copper became available after the discovery of metallurgy. The evolution of knife technology mirrors that of other technologies. As a result of the discovery of iron, the knife we use today was developed. ▶️ Knives in the Lithic Period: More than 2.5 million years ago, during the Lower Palaeo lithic time period, knives first appeared, as evidenced by the Oldowan stone tool archaeological industry. The few pieces of other stone that comprised these tools severely constrained their usefulness. The fact that these primitive implements existed before Homo sapiens is mind-boggling in and of itself. Because of the simplicity of these tools, knives were used only when absolutely necessary and then thrown away. Knives were made using a wide range of approaches and materials during the Lithic period. ▶️Copper and bronze age knives: In the era that followed, people began to make their tools out of different materials. Soft metals like copper, tin, and bronze were first used at the beginning of the Copper and Bronze Age, around 5,000 BC. These blades were longer lasting than their Lithic counterparts, but they were not as sharp and easily lost their edge. Single-edged knives didn't appear until the Bronze Age, around 4000 years after the invention of the double-edged dagger. It was also around this time that the first sharpening techniques appeared. Knives were used primarily for hunting, cooking, and carpentry during this time period. ▶️Knives in the Iron Era: About 3,500 years ago, Homo sapiens entered the Iron Age, a time of great industrial and mining progress. Iron, naturally, was a huge improvement over the tools that had been available by the end of the Bronze Age. About 500 years ago, knives started being used as regular cutlery. Compared to copper, the material was much harder and better able to maintain a sharp edge. Aside from the folding knife, which was an innovation, the knife has changed little in terms of functionality since the invention of the steel blade. However, the design of knives has vastly improved, resulting in exquisitely crafted implements like the Damas knives we stock. ▶️ The Modern Knife: Because of their widespread utility in modern life, knives have essentially become a necessity. Without them, we would be unable to do anything requiring precise cutting, chopping, or slicing. Cutting wire or slicing an apple would be impossible without a modern knife. There is now a bewildering selection of knives available to meet a wide range of needs. The everyday chef's knife is used in the kitchen, while hunters employ a hunting knife and soldiers a combat knife. For use in the kitchen or while camping, choose from among our Damas Knives, which range from pattern welded knives made of hundreds of layers of steel to single-layer knives. If you have never had access to a high-quality tool, you have no idea what you are missing. Great stories can be found in the connection between the development of knives and the rise of Homo sapiens. The evolution of human knowledge and technology resulted in better knives over time. Knives are a symbol of the development of our culture. These priceless resources have evolved alongside humankind as our needs have evolved through the ages.
