Plasco was a 17-storey building located in the center of Tehran. This building collapsed due to a fire on Thursday, December 21, 2016, after 54 years of construction, and 560 commercial units were destroyed. The original Plasko building, with a height of 42 meters, was the tallest building in Tehran at the time of construction in 1341 and was considered one of the first skyscrapers in Tehran along with the aluminum building. This building was a symbol of modern Tehran and modern architecture in the capital of Iran and was considered as a symbol of the city. The tower was completely burnt down during the fire and 16 firefighters and six others were killed in the fire, but the back building was rebuilt as it was. In September 2016, a design competition was held to design the new Plasco building as a lasting national monument. The concept design of Kourosh Rafiei Architecture Office won the second place in the competition and after passing several evaluations, it was selected by the jury and the employer for construction.
