MESSAGE NOTES Dec 25th. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:1-5 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." John 1:14 "For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace." John 1:16 God didn't visit. God moved in. There I will meet with the people of Israel, and it shall be sanctified by my glory. I will consecrate the tent of meeting and the altar. Aaron also and his sons I will consecrate to serve me as priests. I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God. Exodus 29:43-45 O Lord, I love the habitation of your house and the place where your glory dwells. Psalm 26:8 “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.”” Rev. 21:3 At Christmas, the ordinary is never ordinary again. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory. John 1:14a The glory wasn't just in the spectacular moments. The glory WAS the dwelling. God is still dwelling. Still resident. Still present. "Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of—throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself." - .S. Lewis Dwelling means Presence in the Ordinary Dwelling means honesty about the mess. Dwelling means accepting that God is building something different. Dwelling means daily, ordinary companionship. At Christmas, the ordinary is never ordinary again.
