Tomb Zone of Doxipara

In the early 2nd century. A.D. four members of a wealthy family of landowners who died successively, cremated and buried in the same place, near the road leading from Adrianople in Plovdiv. In the same place gradually built a large tomb, to maintain alive the memory of the dead. The area is currently owned by the City of Kyprinos and is near the villages of Little Doxipara, Zone and Chelidona. With the excavation four large pits were identified, containing the remains of burning three men and a woman, together with numerous items that accompanied them in the other world, as clay, glass and bronze vases, copper lamps and lanterns, brass lanterns, weapons, jewelry, wooden boxes etc. The five coaches who carried the dead in the tomb, buried in the same room with their pack animals. Beside them five horses are buried. In all the coaches the metal functional and decorative elements are preserved, while two of them preserve their wooden parts.
