Show Some Concern was a single by charity super-group, The Concerned, which was released on March 17, 1985 in Ireland to raise funds for the famine relief work being done by Concern in Ethiopia and Sudan. It went straight to number one in the charts – and stayed number one for three weeks. The song was written by Paul Cleary of The Blades and produced by award-winning composer Bill Whelan. It was the brainchild of the late Gerry Ryan and Paul Cleary’s then manager Mark Venner. It followed the success of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ by Band Aid earlier that year. This music video, made available thanks to RTE, was filmed at Windmill Lane Recording Studios. Those who took part in the recording, which is also featured in RTE’s Reeling in the Years episode for 1985, include Pat Kenny, Dave Fanning, Maxi, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Twink and Linda Martin. The song credit: Lyrics and Music by Paul Cleary ----------------------------------------------------- Verse one Things don’t change, they're still the same We are so anxious to parade our shame But that’s just the Western way, what do you say? Faith can’t feed and hope can’t last With charity spelt G.U.I.L.T You could save a life today What do you say And relentlessly the burning sun is telling you and me Chorus It’s not too late to learn, Show some concern, It’s not too late to learn, Show some concern. Verse two We're so hurt, look at us cry But when our counterfeit tears are dry Africa for holidays. What do you say Now you know there's a living hell Don’t throw your pennies down a wishing well Send your money there today What do you say? And relentlessly the burning sun is telling you and me Chorus It’s not too late to learn, Show some concern, It’s not too late to learn, Show some concern.
