Following an absence of nearly 16 years, 34072 "257 Squadron" hauled its debut passenger service since its major overhaul, along the Swanage Railway. Withdrawn from service in January 2003, Bulleid 'Battle of Britain' Class - 34072 "257 Squadron" remained in the overhaul queue for almost a decade before owners, Southern Locomotives Ltd, could turn their attention to the locomotive in the late stages of 2012. Having emerged from Herston Works in August 2017, the locomotive was well on its way to a return to steam, though with many jobs still to be done. Now over a year later, following endless tiresome work by volunteers, "257 Squadron" hauled its first public service train along the Purbeck branch line accompanied by BR Standard Class 4MT Tank - 80104; also owned by Southern Locomotives Ltd. The pair double-headed from Swanage to Norden, with 34072 running around at Norden leaving 80104 at the back, for a top and tailed return run to Swanage. While this marks a huge milestone in 34072's return to steam, further fettling is still required on the loco before it enters regular traffic. All footage filmed on Wednesday the 26th of September 2018.
