Monitoring Sixspotted Thrips in Almond Orchards for Spider Mite Control

This video describes how to sample for webspinning spider mites and their predators to inform management decisions. Spider mites damage almond foliage by sucking cell contents from leaves, causing leaf stippling. Damaged leaves can turn yellow and drop. However, yield losses only occur after severe tree defoliation. Predators, especially sixspotted thrips, can reduce mite numbers to prevent economic damage, so consider their presence and relative abundance before miticides are applied.
