In 2013 the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation teamed up with Eberlestock to create the ultimate elk hunting pack. The result is a versatile, innovative and durable pack designed to get your gear into elk country, then, if things go well, help you get that gear and meat back out. Lets start with the pack's versatility. At 6.8 pounds, the pack is light enough to use on day trips, and with a total volume of 3,100 cubic inches, it's big enough to pack your overnight gear into a spike camp too. a quick tour through the pockets shows this was designed for the organized hunter with dual full-depth spotting scope pockets on either side, and enough MOLLE webbing to satisfy just about anyone. And perhaps the best part is the ease of access to the main compartment. Unclipping the meat shelf opens up access to your lunch, game bags or anything else you need for the hunt. And then there's the innovation. Because hunters tend to go in light and come out heavy, there is a need for one pack to do it all. The Team Elk M5 pack combines the sturdy, load-dispersing qualities of an external Intex-II aluminum frame with the sleek, streamlined profile of an internal frame pack. When the time comes to haul meat, simply compress the pack and cinch it tight. Use the meat shelf and frame to secure the load. Not just a meat-hauler, this pack also doubles as a weapons hauler. It comes with a built in rifle scabbard, and carries a bow with just as much ease. If you like to ride a bike into your honey hole, this is a particularly great feature. When not in use, the scabbard simply tucks inside the bottom of the pack. To help distribute the load, the packs's suspension is a fully-adjustable ladder system that allows you to adjust it to fit your torso. In addition, the pack is designed to allow airflow between you and the load. The waist-belt is adjustable, removable and provides pockets on either side to stash snacks, cell phones and range finders. The pack is made of Eberlestock's own NT-7 fabric, which is waterproof, tough and above all quiet. And the new Doppelgänger camo actually uses a dual image system, which causes the eye to focus on a detail in one of the two layers; everything else, including you, just fades away.
