In the town of Luma, everything was gray. No one remembered why, but long ago, color had simply vanished. Except for one girl. Nia could see colors—hidden hues swirling in laughter, golden glows around kind hearts. But no one believed her. One evening, while exploring her attic, she found a dusty wooden box with a single word carved on the lid: "REMEMBER." Inside lay an old paintbrush, its bristles faintly shimmering. The moment she touched it, a whisper brushed her ear. "Find them. Set them free." Curious, she dipped the brush in water and painted a tiny yellow star on the wall. The instant she lifted the brush, the star shimmered—then floated into the air. Heart racing, she painted a bluebird. It blinked, ruffled its feathers, then hopped off the wall and flew away. The brush could bring back what was lost. The next day, she painted green trees, golden sunlight, and red flowers. As the colors spread, people gasped. Memories returned. "I remember golden fields!" an old woman cried. "The sky… it was blue!" whispered a shopkeeper. The town was waking up. But deep in the mayor’s mansion, a shadow stirred. The Mayor of Luma, cloaked in darkness, had ruled for a hundred years. He had stolen the colors to keep the town “peaceful.” That night, as Nia painted a silver moon, a voice whispered behind her. "Some things are meant to be forgotten." The mayor loomed, eyes black as ink. "Give me the brush." Nia tightened her grip. "You took the colors away!" "I protected Luma. Without colors, there’s no envy. No pain." "But no joy either," Nia whispered. Shadows curled around him. The air turned cold. Nia took a deep breath and dipped her brush into the air itself. With a single stroke—pure, glowing white—light burst forth, washing over the town. The shadows recoiled, and the mayor let out a cry as he faded like mist at dawn. The next morning, the town awoke to dazzling hues. Rivers sparkled, flowers bloomed, and the sky stretched in soft pinks and golds. For the first time in a hundred years, Luma was alive. Nia smiled. The colors had returned. And with them, so had hope.
