We are very proud and pleased to announce that Kazan Law is the only law firm in the entire world to have abstracts accepted for publication and presentation at the International Mesothelioma Interest Group 2016 Conference in Birmingham, UK the leading medical-science meeting on mesothelioma. The first poster examines the unusual cluster of mesothelioma cases at the University of California Berkeley. A physics professor and two graduate students developed mesothelioma after exposure to asbestos containing products used during experiments in the University's lab in the early 1960s. All three of the professors died within two years of each other within the last few years. It's an unusual and important event we felt should be highlighted as a reminder to all of the scientists attending the conference that even they could be exposed to asbestos in their work and could be at significant risk. The second poster is based on our court case where an asbestos defendant was attempting to produce an asbestos scientific defense that claimed a genetic abnormality called BAP1 was a separate cause of mesothelioma. Our expert witnesses demonstrated and testified that BAP1 is NOT a cause of mesothelioma. In fact one of the defense experts in the case agreed that BAP1 is not a cause of mesothelioma. Our conclusion is that the BAP1 defense appears to have no merit and even the people relying on this defense don't have the courage to go forward with it in court. www.kazanlaw.com
