A distinct top formation of the 60s, which was called "Germany's hardest beat group" due to its special appearance. The group was founded in 1962 in Wuppertal. The first band line-up consisted of: Peter Frohn (lead) (†), Rainer Schiffgen, Klaus-Dieter Prange and Siegfried Wagner. They called themselves "The Kentucky Rockers". In the course of time the band members changed often until 1963 when the Weiler brothers Manfred (Rhythm) and Bernd (Hammond) joined and Peter Frohn gave the band the short name "The Kentuckys". Later, bassist Peter Zadina joined the band and Rocky Zimdars (†) put the crown on it as drummer. Twice a week the Kentuckys spent time at the hairdresser. Once a red hair color was announced, then green or blond. Due to their fancy clothes and their provocative appearance in public, some respectable citizens turned up their noses. In the evening Louie Louie, Long Tall Shorty, You Really Got Me, Cadillac, Uncle Willy and other hard numbers were announced again. The audience went wild and had a blast. Due to the increasing popularity of the Kentuckys on their German tour, the then current single "Uncle Willy / 5 Dollars and Saturday Night" (recorded at Bellaphon Studios) sold like hotcakes. Following this success, the band recorded a second single "The Old Hangman is Dead / Stupid Generation" in 1966 under the same label. This time it was Peter Zadina's own compositions (music) and Rocky Zimdars (lyrics).
