Roughtor, Bodmin Moor A Cornish murder story and climbing Roughtor, Cornwall!!

A strange combination? Well, let me tell you more. A murder was committed a long time ago, in 1844 very close to Roughtor and a memorial was erected, on the spot, so we had to find out more before we attempted to climb to the summit of Roughtor. Charlotte Dymond's lifeless body was found in Roughtor Ford, at the foot of Roughtor in 1844. She was a servant girl, born illegitimately and spurned by her mother. Matthews Weeks, her boyfriend, was convicted of her murder and hung at Bodmin Goal in front of 20,000 people. The dramatic story captured the Victorian imagination. Roughtor is the second highest peak in Cornwall at over 1300 feet and is located near Camelford, Cornwall. The book that guided us to the top, took us up a rocky ascent instead of the more sedate and obvious route from the car park. We suggest you use the obvious route!!
