Episode 29 of the Performance Around the Clock Podcast is our second episode from the 2024 Gerontology Society of America (GSA) Annual Scientific Meeting in Seattle. We are privileged to host Dr. Steven Austad who is a leading expert in aging biology. Dr. Austad is a Distinguished Professor and Chair of Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Director of UAB's Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging. He is also a Senior Scientific Director of the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR). His varied career from large cat training, longevity field work with opposums, calculating the age of greenland sharks, and work with numerous other species gives Dr. Austad a unique view on longevity and aging. He also developed the Longevity Quotient (LQ) which is simplified measure that enables normalized comparisons of various species' longevity.
