Not only is gold a thing of beauty but its store of monetary value has impacted and shaped humanity and our destinies for all time and no where iis this more evident in Colorado than along the Colorado Mineral Belt, which lies within a zone that has been geologically active for at least 1.6 billion years to the present and where the important ore deposits such as gold, silver, and lead are found. And in the 1800's when the first $5 worth of gold was found in a stream flowing from Ralston Creek into Clear Creek in Arvada, it was the first gold discovery ever in Colorado. And it was impetus for many back east to leave their homes and their families to seek out their fortunes in the West and with promises of riches they came by the thousands, in wagons with gold pans and pistols and set up tents and wooden structures which have long since disappeared from our existence and all that is left are abandoned buildings, dreams, and cemeteries. so come with me as with check out some of the ghost towns along the Colorado Mineral Belt, starting with Gold Hill.
