Severe Capsular Phimosis

Capsular phimosis occurs when there is severe contraction of the anterior capsular tissue which results in a shrinking of the capsulorhexis from 5 mm in diameter to just 1 mm in this case. We are learning from Dr. Mohanna Al-Jindan from Saudia Arabia. This is a patient who had pseudo-exfoliation syndrome and then was not seen for a few years after successful cataract surgery. The patient presented to the clinic with severe capsular phimosis with a small 1 mm opening remaining in the anterior lens capsule. This needs surgical repair and simply treating with a YAG laser is not likely going to be sufficient to correct the problem.
