Quite a short video today sadly, closing of the videos from the excellent RVPT Morecambe, comprising the last of the step-entrance vehicles. We have Volvo Olympian 2234. 2234 was new in 1996 as the penultimate of a batch of 12 Volvo Olympians with the longer Northern Counties Palatine Mk 1 body. 2234 was initially based out of Preston garage, before passing to Chorley garage for use on routes 125 & 126 linking Bolton to Preston. 2005 saw it assist Carlisle depot following a flood. The bus became 16634 under Stagecoach's national fleet numbering scheme. 2234 then passed to Morecambe garage where it operated until withdrawn in October 2016 due to DDA legislation changes whereupon it was purchased for preservation. 2234 was operating one of the last journeys of the day, doing a trip on the 423 from Morecambe Football Stadium to Heysham Village, however I had to bail out at Winter Gardens to prevent me getting stranded in Heysham. 2234 is powered by a Euro 2 Volvo D10A-245 engine, records state this had a ZF Ecomat 4-speed. However to me this sounds like it has been retrofitted with a Voith D854.3. 3-speed gearbox. Answers on a postcard, but do enjoy the video. Start: Morecambe, Mazuma Stadium Finish: Morecambe, Winter Gardens
