What a Monday at IIT Madras! The Office of Alumni and Corporate Relations had the honor of hosting Mr. Ram Vittal (’94/BT/ME)—CEO of Marex Americas for a compelling Leadership Lecture titled: “From Solving Equilibrium Equations to Navigating Market Mayhem: First Principles for an Unsettled World.” Mr. Ram Vittal’s career path is a standout example of a non‑linear journey from Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras to leadership roles at JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs, and now leading Marex across the US, Canada, and South America. Drawing on his own IIT Madras student days, Mr. Ram Vittal led a lively, interactive conversation about what has changed and what endures across generations of students. His message: the habits you build early become force multipliers over time. *Take smart risks. Failures are often recoverable and always instructive; the regret of inaction lasts longer than the sting of a miss. *Fight complacency. Intelligence and technical mastery can kick‑start a career, but disciplined, sustained effort is what gets you to the finish line. *Win together. If collaboration matters in IIT’s competitive environment, it matters even more in the real world. Collective success scales impact. *Build your network early. Peer relationships open doors professionally and enrich you personally your future opportunities often come from today’s circle. *Progress and comparison. Don’t outsource your definition of success to LinkedIn or happiness to Instagram. Measure growth on your own terms. *Bottom line: An IIT education isn’t just courses and code. It’s values, soft skills, and a way of thinking that builds the confidence to navigate real world problems long after graduation. A sincere thank‑you to Ram Vittal for returning to IIT Madras and inspiring the next generation of leaders. 🔔 Like, share, and subscribe for more conversations from IIT Madras.
