Our journey took us 8 kilometers into this dense, almost mythical forest—first in a rugged safari jeep, and then on foot. The deeper we went, the more the modern world melted away, replaced by a symphony of cicadas, rustling leaves, and the occasional distant call of something wild. At one point, the jungle was so thick, it felt like the trees were closing in on us. There were moments we thought we’d lost our way—until the river Umtrew appeared like a silver thread weaving through the greenery, guiding us forward. And then there were the leeches. Oh, the leeches! Clinging to our clothes, our skin—little hitchhikers from the undergrowth that made sure we’d never forget where we’d been. This is not your average nature walk.
