My son Nicolas just finished his first year of engineering at the University of Alberta. He's following in my footsteps. This summer he landed a job as a field operator, just like I did 30 years ago. I earned an engineering degree in 1991, and got hired by Amoco Canada Petroleum Co. Ltd. as a site engineer for the Kaybob plant in Fox Creek, Alberta. This is where I really ignited my passion for the outdoors (but that's another story). Amoco had a policy of making young engineers operate before letting us design anything. This simple policy became the great foundation for a fulfilling career in the energy industry. This is vintage footage recorded by me in 1992. Even back then I was into documenting my life. I did this short video to show my parents back in Ontario what my job was like. The operating practices have changed quite a bit since then. In the coming months I hope to visit my son at his work and document modern practices.
