How to tighten a Union

This was leak free until I had to redo my piping and just tightened it carefree and was leaking. Thought this video might help solve issues with leaking union due to improper care during installation. Unions if seated properly require less force in tightening until leak free. Key is to pre-align the mating surfaces as much as possible. If a union is leaking, it is best to check the alignment prior to pre-tightening the nut. Tips: 1) If you cannot hand turn the nut, chances are the mating surfaces are not aligned and/or lubricated. 2) keep the mating surfaces pressed together as much as possible while turning the nut, only release until the pipe no longer move. 3) it is highly recommended to use lubrication on even a straight thread such as a union- less friction is best.
