1917 was the year the Great War truly went insane. After the slaughter of Verdun and the Somme, the Western Front was supposed to have reached its limit. Yet in 1917, France, Britain, and Germany plunged back into the abyss. From the Hindenburg Line and the Nivelle Offensive to the blood-drenched ridges of Arras and Vimy, this was the year when modern warfare reached its breaking point. The Allies believed one last push could end the war. Instead, it unleashed chaos on an unimaginable scale. French troops mutinied, entire divisions collapsed, and the dream of victory turned into a nightmare of mud, gas, and blood. The Germans, now masters of defense-in-depth, bled their enemies dry behind concrete bunkers and barbed wire. Both sides learned new tactics, new technologies, and new ways to die. #history #education #military #ww1 #worldwar1 #army Music - 'Shadows and Dust' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au
