In a recent trip we left our home in the Cotswolds to spend a week exploring this beautiful canal and surrounding landscape on the Welsh/ English border. If you love Britain's countryside and history I hope this different video from the norm is for you and that you will enjoy cruising with us. Known as the 'Mon-Brec' this delightful canal follows the line of the Usk Valley through the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. We start our trip by picking up our boat 'The Red Collared Swallow' at Goytre Wharf close to Abergavenny and cruise slowly north to the historic town of Brecon before returning to Goytre a week later. Along the way we will pass many pretty villages , some with great pubs which we will pop into and enjoy panoramic views across the Usk Valley to Sugar Loaf mountain and the Beacons themselves. In our second vlog we cruise for around 6 hours passing through Llanfoist, Govilon, Gilwern, and Langattock before finding an overnight mooring close to Llangynidr which is just before the start of 6 locks which will tackle in the next Vlog. Along the way we enjoyed some great views of The Skirrid (Holy Mountain).
