Countless people with dreams of making it big in the entertainment industry head to Hollywood each year, but only few succeed. Yoo-jung Han, with raw talent and excellent work ethic, became the first Korean to establish herself as an art director and production designer in Hollywood. While studying in the U.S., she worked on her very first production, which was a Korean film titled 'Love.' Son after, she began working on Hollywood movies including 'Better Luck Tomorrow,' 'Footprints' and 'Dancing Ninja' as well as TV series and commercials as art director and production designer. Her success, however, sure didn't happen overnight. "I have to fight with myself a lot of the times. When you get too comfortable or when you feel you know a lot, that's when it gets dangerous." She had to work extra hard to break stereotypes against Asian women, and to prove herself to her clients. Staying strong and confident in the face of challenges Yoo-jung Han began to develop a desire to study set design when she was in her teens, but was met with strong objections from her parents. When she was about to give up, she realized that she could pursue her dream as long as she didn't expect any help from her parents. Numerous challenges awaited her, one after another, and behind the Hollywood glamor were hardships that she hadn't expected. She overcame these challenges and finally established herself in Hollywood, but she is still tackling new challenges to stay on top of her game. Encouraging and supporting her juniors Yoo-jung Han faced a number of difficulties before she could get to where she is today, and in order to help her juniors avoid the unnecessary, time-consuming situations, she has undertaken a new project, despite her busy schedule. "I don't want my juniors to be in the situations I faced." She hopes to help the aspiring art directors in Korea get started in the business.
