By now, you've probably heard of enclosures. And you've probably also learned some. But is it actually coming out in your playing? Do you actually have command over them? There's so much information about what enclosures are, but practicing them is a whole different story. Besides learning from existing solos by the jazz legends, you MUST learn how to experiment in order to build your vocab. But what I've seen so often in intermediate players is a belief that more exercises will magically lead them to more authentic sounding jazz soloing. If that were the case.. then those exercises would be common knowledge in the jazz community! Just like how we know that bicep curls lead to bigger biceps - it becomes common knowledge once the evidence is solidified. Let me break it to ya - there's no magic exercise for achieving the that jazz and bebop sound! I remember how much time I spent searching for just the right exercise on YouTube.. don't waste your time like me! You have to ditch that idea and learn how to experiment, and learn how to apply existing language from solos into your own playing. And if you're unsure of how to make that mindset shift and how to adapt your practicing strategies to this mindset.. and you're wanting my direct guidance in helping you navigate the next step.. then you can send me an email at charlie@novujazzacademy.com with a bit of your jazz background and goals and we'll chat.
