In this lecture, we continue building the core mechanics of financial accounting by focusing on how transactions are recorded, summarized, and analyzed. We begin by reviewing the structure and purpose of accounts and how a chart of accounts organizes financial information. Next, we walk through journalizing transactions using the double-entry accounting system, followed by posting those transactions to ledger accounts. You’ll see how individual journal entries flow through the accounting system and lead to the preparation of an unadjusted trial balance, including how a trial balance can help identify posting and recording errors. To wrap up the chapter, we shift from recording transactions to analyzing financial data. We introduce horizontal analysis and apply it to a real-world example by reviewing Target’s annual report, showing how year-to-year comparisons can be used to evaluate a company’s performance and financial condition. This video follows the Cengage Financial Accounting course and is designed to reinforce lecture material, homework problems, and exam preparation. Remember to like and subscribe for more videos!
