Updating Garmin Nuvi 2597 GPS maps for North America

Some cars have built in GPS and most phones have GPS function as well. An add on GPS can work just as well or better. The only downside is the maps might not be updated. The Garmin Nuvi 2597 and similar models allows you to update the maps fairly easily and for free. Go to Garmin.com/express to download the installer. My updated 2021 North America maps downloaded in 10 minutes or so. You can download other software to increase the functionality of your GPS and those software can be downloaded quickly. In order to do the update properly, microSD card of at least 4 gig has to be inserted into the slot at the bottom of the GPS. I recommend a 32 gig micro sd card as they are very inexpensive and can hold a lot of data. Insert the GPS and connect it to your PC or laptop to update the maps. Some GPS allows for wifi update but this one does not. A direct connection with the included mini usb connector is the quickest way. The included usb cable is a short one so it has enough current to run the GPS while it is connected to the Mac. A dedicated GPS with its own mount frees up your phone and won't drain your phone's battery. How many times have you used your phone as a GPS and then left it in your car. If the computer software doesn't recognize your GPS, either reboot the computer or disconnect the usb and reconnect after a few seconds.
