The Legendary Alice 828 Broadcast Mixer !!! Transformed into Impulse Responses !!!There are a thousand stories about this amazing piece of recording / mixing hardware - Lee Scratch Perry used one - the production team for James Bond’s film Thunderball used one because they loved the sound of the limiters - there are producers to this day who will only mix drums through an Alice 828 - & here at Shrunkenheadsstudios - ours gets used All the time for both tracking, mixing & sound design. The Belclere input transformers saturate beautifully - the eq is tight but Always sweet, the mix bus is solid & warm - & the limiters …….. Heavenly. However - the magic of this desk is in mixing All those elements together just right - & this is what we have done at Shrunkenheadsstudios! There are 86 IR files - lets start with the filters. There are 2 sets of High Pass & Low Pass. The HP filters clean up the low end while still maintaining warmth. The LP filters work like magic - you can use filter 1 like a de-esser for vocals, guitars or drums etc - put one on the mix bus - the top end is clearer but warmer - the bottom end a lil bit enhanced. LP filters 4 & 5 add a Huge amount of beautiful bass - it’s delicious & addictive so watch your speakers!! There are 8 line in channels - 1 to 4 are set to gain 4, - 5 & 6 are set to gain 6, - 7 & 8 are set to gain 7 - so you have 3 saturation stages. You could just choose your favourite channel for the song you’re mixing - but the real magic happens when you put random channels on different instruments - the whole non linearity thing starts kicking in - & everything starts to sound Very Beautiful, & very rich - if you want to add weight & warmth to your audio - put some of this in the mix! Included are two mic channels with gain stages from 1 to 10. These files sound incredible & add saturation & / or clarity & lustre to any audio source. The balance of transformer saturation to mix bus saturation to limiters changes the higher the settings - they all sound amazing, & they all focus audio like nothing you’ve ever heard. You should also try these files on the mixbus & for mastering. The 12 masterbus settings go from no limiting to 12 - then there are two more that slam the limiters into manic action! Some settings will be good for classical music, some for rock, some for jazz, some for electro & some for dance - drop the files into your fave convolution player (we like Melda MConvolutionMB, Kilohearts Convolver & Fog Convolver) & test the waters - these limiters balance audio like nothing else. In addition we included Mix bus settings saturated from the mic channels - push the boat out & have a little blast - it’ll put a smile on your face.
