In this community education session focused on Arthritis and joint health, our Lead Physiotherapist, Raj, answers a common and important question: “If I keep doing the activities I love, shouldn’t that be enough to stay strong and pain-free?" This video explains why activities like walking, golf, gardening, and cycling are excellent for maintaining movement, but don’t always provide the muscle strength needed to support joints and prevent pain, stiffness, or injury. Raj breaks down how muscle strength plays a critical role in joint health, helping to stabilise joints, improve blood flow, and deliver nutrition to the cartilage. When muscles around the joints are weak, even in very active people, joint pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility can persist or worsen over time. You’ll learn why targeted strength training is essential at any age, including your 70s and 80s, and why strengthening doesn’t only mean heavy gym lifting. Raj shares how simple, specific exercises can strengthen key muscle groups, reduce joint stress, and even contribute to overall cardiovascular health. This session highlights how tailored strengthening programs help people return to their favourite activities, like long walks, full rounds of golf, cycling, and running, even after Arthritis, fractures, or years of unsuccessful treatment. While results take time, consistent and targeted physiotherapy-led strengthening can significantly improve joint function, confidence in movement, and long-term joint health. This session focused on helping people better understand arthritis, how it affects daily life, and what can be done to support joint health, mobility, and long-term quality of life.
