In this how to video we show you how to create colour washes using premium chalk paint. Colour washes are a great way to bring in colours from soft furnishings, art and the outdoors. Colour washes create soft movement and are an alternative to using coloured wax. Once you are happy with the finish you can seal with wax, or with lacquer for a more durable finish. We have painted the base in Hokitika Gorge chalk paint on both samples. On sample one we then added a colour wash of Obsidian Blue and then another colour wash of Peacock. On the second sample we added a colour wash of Sea Glass and then a second colour wash of Forget Me not. When creating a colour wash water your premium chalk paint down by 50% or to your liking. Work in sections at a time and wipe the excess of with a lint-free rag. Remember to keep moving your rag to a clean section. You can do as many layers of washes as you like, once you are happy with the end result, seal with wax or lacquer. On the three-tiered table that we completed, we started with a base of Hokitika Gorge and did two colour washes, the first in Sea Glass and the second in Forget Me Not. We then sealed with Satin lacquer for a slight sheen. For more information make sure to go to our website: www.dooneyanddaughters.co.nz
