The form of the 3rd movement is in ABA’ ternary with a coda at the end. The tempo is allegro, which means fast and lively. The time is in 2/4, indicating 2 counts per measure and a quarter note receiving 1 count. The texture of this movement is homophonic, which means melody with accompaniment. Therefore, the right hand’s melody must play louder than the left’s accompaniment. There are many loud (forte) and soft (piano) contrasts in dynamics, which are the characteristic styles of the classical period. Highlight the contrasts when playing them. The 16th-note passages must be played with agility. The “fz” signs in bar 17, 21, 22, 25, 29 and so on mean to play them with emphasis. “fz” is the abbreviation of “forzando”, an Italian word for “forcing”, and aims to create surprise effect. When playing it, keep a good balance. Do it with pedal as indicated in the score for an enhanced tone quality. The music gets softer in the coda (bar 76), giving the impression it is fading away. Instead, Clementi gives us a final twist, and ends the music with strong ascending tonic chords. It is a happy and joyful piece.
