In August 2025 Rick and Bill took a float plane from Yellowknife to MacKay Lake, Northwest Territories and spent 12 days canoeing and fishing the southern portion of Warburton Bay. They saw muskox and a grizzly bear from camp. The fishing was decent, with lake trout the target species. If you are planning to come to MacKay Lake be advised that the south end of the lake where we were is generally quite shallow. There is some deeper water but you just as likely to encounter shoals of barely submerged rocks far from shore. Word to the wise...
